Think you'd like working on a yacht?

Updated: Aug 22, 2018

What does it take to work on a yacht? Well, having some experience on a boat certainly helps, whether it was on your family’s pontoon, your summer job at the lake or during that romantic fling in the islands…but experience isn’t everything. Your personality is key.

Forget working on yachts if you’re:

A clothes lover................... Get ready to yank the same two items from your one drawer every day.

A gossiper.......................... Did you hear it or did you see it? Loose lips sink ships.

A private person................ You won’t even bother shutting the bathroom door.

A back-talker..................... You’re expendable, like immediately.

A sleeper........................... Rise and shine with a smile, and showing up in your PJs won’t cut it.

Proud................................. You’ll be eating a strict diet of humble pie.

Selfish............................... You’ll barely own anything, and what’s yours is theirs.

Lazy................................... You’re on the job 24/7.

Seasick.............................. It doesn’t get you out of working.

On the other hand, it really helps to have:

Flexibility.......................... Able to drop everything to serve your owner, captain, guests.

Patience............................ Able to take really deep breadths and move on

Humility............................ Able to eat crow and smile

Endless Energy................. Able to go 100mph without request

Tolerable.......................... Able to overlook snotty, stupid, and rude

Team Attitude................... Able to do every disgusting job with a “yes, sure!” attitude

Respectful........................ Able to show off your manners, be sincere and remember your place

Humorous......................... Able to see the humor in just about every single thing

Abnormal.......................... Able to give up any semblance of a normal life
