Charter Guests are Friends for Life...Especially When They are Weird

One of our wildest charters was with two happy couples from Texas who won their charter through a Humane Society charity auction. When Carol and Steve and Marie and Phil arrived on the yacht, they instantly transformed into pirates, dressing the part every chance they got with black crossbones skull caps and Jolly Rogers flags. We knew we were in for a crazy time when they laughingly told us some of Carol’s “blond moments.” For instance, she hung wallpaper upside-down in an entire dining room: and another time, she ripped the door off her Jaguar at a tollbooth trying to retrieve a dropped quarter. We watched her husband rolling on the floor laughing over these disasters, and we KNEW that going on these people’s vacation was going to be a blast.

Can you relate??? Their number-one spot for dancing and drinking was the infamous Bumba Shack, a bizarre beach bar owned by Bumba and known for its mushroom tea served at midnight on full-moons. All I can legally tell you is that Carol sat on Bumba’s lap and her panties are still displayed in its rafters. (The devil’s in the details!)

Good Friends

At noon on the last day of their charter, while we were carrying their suitcases to the dock, all four of these charter nut cases tied themselves to the yacht’s dining table and chanted, ‘We ain’t going. We ain’t going. We ain’t going nowhere.” (Winston and I coerced them off the yacht with promises of lots of rum!) Over the years, we’ve rendezvoused with theses crazies several times, staying in their homes in Texas and, later, California. Good friends. Great charter guests.”
